"Reliquary for Gratitude for Nature"

A poem by e.e. cummings was the inspiration for this piece. Here is the poem:

i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday; this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings: and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any--lifted from the no
of all nothing--human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

The angel holds a cornucopia that spills out the riches of space-stars and planets. I collaged pictures of our beautiful natural world- plants, insects, animals on top of the continents and oceans.  I cut into the globe& created a reliquary shrine that holds the relic: an egg that the bird has flown from. I put the first stanza of the poem on the back wall. The door to the relic opens so that other objects could be added later by the owner. There is an abundance of fruits & vegetation on the base. This reliquary expresses how truly thankful I am for the abundance in our lives- we have air to breathe, water to drink, food to eat and are surrounded by the beauty of this diverse earth.
